The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a major modern and contemporary art museum on the banks of the Nervión River in Bilbao, housed in a landmark building designed by architect Frank Gehry. Its sweeping forms are clad in titanium, limestone, and glass, creating a structure that changes appearance with the surrounding light and weather. The museum's collection includes works by artists such as Anish Kapoor, Jeff Koons, Louise Bourgeois, and Richard Serra, while large-scale installations occupy some of its most distinctive spaces. Outside, works including Puppy by Jeff Koons and Maman by Louise Bourgeois form part of the museum's public art landscape.
La Salve Bridge is a major road bridge spanning the Nervión River in Bilbao, located directly beside the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Its structure has become closely associated with the museum through Daniel Buren’s Arcos rojos, a large red installation added to the bridge that incorporates three circular openings and illuminated elements. The sculpture was designed to make the bridge more visually prominent while creating a strong connection with the museum’s titanium exterior. The bridge is also part of Bilbao’s riverside urban landscape, linking areas on either side of the estuary and providing distinctive views of the museum and surrounding city.
